InterManager joins industry call to evacuate trapped seafarers from Ukraine

InterManager is proud to join a shipping industry call for help to evacuate the 300+ seafarers still trapped in Ukrainian ports.

In an open letter to the United Nations Secretary General, some 32 maritime organisations, including InterManager, urged the UN to step in and use its diplomatic influence to urgently evacuate the 331 seafarers trapped on vessels in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov.

The letter states: “Our seafarers are the heart of our industry and cannot be forgotten. For 12 months now they have been caught up in a crisis far beyond their control. Simply doing their jobs cannot come at the expense of their lives.”

The letter applauds the UN’s leadership on the Black Sea Grain Initiative which brokered a deal to successfully allow safe passage of vital grain and fertiliser shipments from Ukraine.

The letter concludes: “While there are challenges to evacuating seafarers and their ships, it must nonetheless be a top priority. Otherwise, we risk the lives of our seafarers, and this is unacceptable.”
