1. Wilhelmsen Ship Management has conferred their first female Korean captain, Captain Lee Eun Ran

Captain Lee Eun Ran is not the world’s first female captain but a significant milestone given that shipping is still a male dominated industry and has been the same for decades. Our initiatives to introduce diversity onboard vessels started since 2010. When we started this journey, we wanted to build a strong foundation that would provide a sustainable and strong pipeline of female seafarers. It took us some time as we strove to establish the best practices and standardization to change something that has been the same for decades. https://cyprusshippingnews.com/2022/10/18/wilhelmsen-ship-management-has-conferred-their-first-female-korean-captain-captain-lee-eun-ran/

3. Can Norway move from oil and gas supplier of choice to energy super basin?

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has pushed energy security to the top of the EU’s agenda. The pivot away from Russian imports has exacerbated the pressure on already tight oil and gas markets. Norway, Europe’s biggest oil and gas producer, has responded to calls to raise output. Its fiscal regime is appealing, and it leads the way on upstream decarbonisation. Its role as a supplier of choice seems cemented. https://cyprusshippingnews.com/2022/10/17/can-norway-move-from-oil-and-gas-supplier-of-choice-to-energy-super-basin/

No list of ‘hard to decarbonise’ sectors is complete without steel. From the mining of iron ore through to the blast furnaces that produce the steel itself, the industry is highly carbon intensive. Dozens of ships carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) are circling off the coasts of Spain and other European countries unable to secure slots to unload because plants that convert the seaborne fuel back to gas are full.
