1. 1st CSN Greece Shipping ICT Conference donation to the Galilee Palliative Care Unit

On September 15th, 2022 a handover ceremony was held during the 1st CSN Greece Shipping ICT conference and granted financial donation to the Palliative Care Unit Galilee in total amount of Euro 3750 resulting out of the charity sponsorship from Pioneer Marine and the donations from the delegates of the conference.

2. The Cyprus Shipping Chamber supports the joint statement by the European maritime stakeholders calling for the earmarking of ETS revenues to the European maritime sector to foster its decarbonisation

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber (CSC) fully supports the joint call by the European maritime stakeholders, namely ECSA, the Advanced Biofuels Coalition, CLECAT, CLIA, ESPO, eFuel Alliance, ENMC, ESC, EWABA, FEPORT, SEA Europe, on the Member States and the European Parliament to earmark the revenues generated from the inclusion of the shipping sector in the EU ETS for the maritime sector.

International Maritime Industries, the largest shipyard in the MENA region, has endorsed the newly launched Global Maritime Fund that will offer innovative financing solutions to key customers and maritime companies around the world.

4. Performance Shipping announces agreement to acquire eighth Aframax Vessel

Performance Shipping, a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of tanker vessels, today announced that it has signed, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, a Memorandum of Agreement to purchase the M/T Phoenix Beacon, a 105,525 dwt Aframax tanker vessel built in 2011 by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. – Ulsan, South Korea, from an unaffiliated third party for a gross purchase price of US$35 million.

5. Baltic Exchange amends tanker indices to reflect Europe’s altered energy map

TD17 and TD24, dirty tanker indices which assess rates from Primorsk to Wilhelmshaven and the the Russian Far East to China respectively, will cease from October 21, while the London institution will stop publishing details of the TC9, a clean tanker index focusing on the route from Primorsk to Le Havre from December 23.

6. Port of Long Beach reports increased GHG emissions in 2021

The Port of Long Beach issued its 2021 emissions inventory report this week, presenting both good and bad news on its performance. The bad news is that record cargo volumes and the unusually high number of ocean-going vessels staying at anchor off the coast drove up greenhouse gas emissions by 22% over the baseline 2005 results.

7. White House Reportedly Weighing Controversial Gasoline Exports Ban

White House officials have asked the US Energy Department to analyze whether a ban on exports of gasoline, diesel and other refined petroleum products would lower fuel prices, an indication the controversial idea is gaining traction in some corners of the Biden administration.

8. Mississippi River Barge Backlog Swells as Water Levels Shrink

Commercial barge traffic on southern stretches of the Mississippi River was at a standstill on Tuesday as low water levels halted shipments of grain, fertilizer and other commodities on the critical waterway,shipping sources said.

9. TotalEnergies to explore offshore applications for electric wing-in-ground effect craft

Together, TotalEnergies and Regent are exploring the use of Regent’s all-electric seaglider to transport personnel to offshore windfarms and offshore oil and gas platforms. The seaglider is a wing-in-ground-effect craft that operates a few metres above the surface of the sea and couples the high speed of an aircraft with the low operating cost of a vessel.

10. DNV and Pavilion Energy partner to bring fully digital LNG bunkering to Singapore

Through the collaboration, both companies developed a tailored digital bunkering platform ‘FuelBoss’ to meet local requirements. As a fully digitalized end-to-end bunkering solution, FuelBoss will improve process integrity, data transparency, and operational efficiency for customers. This includes digital checklists and electronic Bunker Delivery Notes developments. The project elevates Pavilion Energy’s commitment to champion the digital transformation of the LNG bunkering in the Port of Singapore.
