1. OSM Maritime and Norwegian Training Center Manila sign MOU

OSM Maritime (OSM) would like to announce that it has signed an agreement with the Norwegian Training Center (NTC) Manila. This happened last August 17 at the NTC Manila office. 2. IMO Secretary-General to visit Odesa

IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim is scheduled to visit the port of Odesa on Monday (29 August), to see at first-hand the implementation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative and hear how ship safety and port management is being implemented. IMO Secretary-General Lim is expected to board a ship and speak to seafarers. 3. Sustainable scallop harvesting in Arctic by Tau Tech to be supported by Inmarsat Fleet Xpress

5. Cosco orders another heavy lift vessel at GSI

6. Ports America appoints new CEO

Ports America, the largest marine terminal operator and stevedore in the US, has announced Matthew Leech will take over from Mark Montgomery as CEO of the company from November when Montgomery retires. 8. Shipping Giant CMA CGM Sees Softening Of Global Freight Rates

French container line giant CMA CGM SA is seeing an across-the-board drop in shipping rates and a loosening of logistics bottlenecks in some regions as demand softens. “What we’ve been seeing now for many weeks is a decrease of freight rates in almost all sectors,” Chief Executive Officer Rodolphe Saade said Friday in Algiers. “We expect that decrease to continue. 9. Svitzer calculates carbon savings for tug speed limit

Svitzer calculates its global fleet of 400 vessels emits the same emissions every year as 100,000 diesel-powered cars, or one tug for every 25 cars, on average, and reasons “any immediate CO2 saving can have a big impact”. 10. IMO has conducted a needs assessment mission to Malawi (22-26 August) to assess and support the country’s maritime sector
