2. “K” Line’s group company Seagate builds electric tugboat powered by battery

Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, is pleased to announce that our group company, SEAGATE CORPORATION, will build new electric tugboat powered by battery. The new Tugboat is equipped with a propulsion system running on “Hybrid EV system”. It has electric motor as a main power source running by large capacity lithium-ion battery charged by land charger. 3. TT Club eager to make pest control workshop a collaborative success

Seaborne invasive pests have potentially devastating consequences for agriculture and the natural environment. TT Club believes all involved in intermodal cargo movements need to be aware of their responsibilities to tighten biosecurity. An IPPC* Workshop, free to all interested parties takes place in London (19-20 September). Industry representatives must register by 31 July.

4. ClassNK makes SEEMP Part III development tool available at the beginning of August

With the start of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) rating in 2023, it is required for ships of 5,000GT and above engaged in the international voyage to develop a ship operational carbon intensity plan (SEEMP Part III) with the IMO designating format, which should include CII calculation methodology, required CII values over the next three years, an implementation plan for achieving the required CII and procedures for self-evaluation and improvement. 5. Guyana’s revenue from oil and gas production set to break $1bn in 2022

According to research by Rystad Energy, the government of Guyana can expect revenue from domestic oil and gas production to surpass $1bn this year and reach $7.5bn annually in 2030, powered by the offshore Stabroek block. 6. BW Offshore hands over FPSO to Pemex

Norwegian floater specialist BW Offshore has transferred the ownership and operation of the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel YĂčum K’ak NĂĄab to Mexico’s state-owned oil and gas company, Pemex. Pemex took over the FPSO on July 22 in accordance with the terms of the 15-year financial lease contract that commenced in 2007. 7. World’s Key Workers Threaten To Hit Economy Where It Will Hurt

The pandemic has put unprecedented strain on global supply chains -– and also on the workers who’ve kept those systems running under tough conditions. It looks like many of them have had enough.

8. Australia & New Zealand Get Slammed By Container Rates

Long-term rates for shipping containers to New Zealand and Australia have soared in the past few years, and are now atrecord highs. This is despite the fact that import volumes have decreased.

Xeneta’s latest data shows that long-term rates for ocean freight into Australasia have soared by over 400% since 2019. 9. SOLAS amendments due in 2024

The 2024 SOLAS amendment includes requirements on the selection, arrangement, inspection, maintenance and replacement of mooring equipment. Documentation regarding the mooring equipment must be maintained and kept onboard and available for inspection. 10. California truckers halt ‘gig-worker’ law protests over weekend as port activity slows

Independent truckers who have been protesting at California’s busy Oakland seaport over the past week against a new state law known as the “gig-worker” law took a break on Saturday, when the port business slowed to a crawl.
