Dispatches No. 502

Dear Members,

Maritime Champions Club-  76 138  as of today.

Please check your latest status and make sure we have your most up to date number of crew changes.

………………………………………………..

Members are kindly requested to have their say about the future of the ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI). As part of the study we are carrying out a survey on how the EEDI framework has improved energy efficiency in new ships. Deadline 18.09.2020

The survey includes questions on:

  1. Perception of EEDI
  2. How attained EEDI has been improved and how it may be improved further
  3. Minimum safe power
  4. Future options for the framework

Technical questions regarding how attained EEDI has been improved will try to gauge uptake of specific design and technical choices (such as engine derating and aft ship type energy saving devices), however only shipyards, ship designers, ship owners, ship management companies, ship brokers and tank testing institutes will be asked these additional questions.

In all cases the survey should take around 10 minutes or less to complete.

The survey may be accessed here. If your email does not support hyperlinks, you may access the survey at this address https://arcsilea.typeform.com/to/ROonukaW

Pooling resources for crew changes – message from last Wednesday:

Message No. 71

Dear Members

It became apparent that there is a myth that ONLY CHINESE CREW CAN BE REPATRATED IN CHINA.

………………………………..
Clyde Travel was able to do as follows and would be happy to similar for you:

The bookings were

(Lithuanian)– 12 Aug PLQ/CPH/HEL – SAS, overnight Glo Hotel (airside), 13 Aug HEL/PVG – Finn Air

(British) – 06 Aug MAN/HEL/PVG – Through Ticket with Finn Air, he has since came back from China last week from Weihai—13 Sep WEH/PVG with Shanghai Airlines, overnight hotel PVG, 14/15 Sep PVG/LHR/GLA with Virgin Atlantic and British Airways and an overnight Heathrow 14 Sep

(British) – 23 Jul MAN/HEL/PVG with Finn Air, he has since came back from China last week from Weihai—13 Sep WEH/PVG with Shanghai Airlines, overnight hotel PVG, 14/15 Sep PVG/LHR/GLA with Virgin Atlantic and British Airways and an overnight Heathrow 14 Sep

(British) – 23 Jul MAN/HEL/PVG with Finn Air

(British) – 23 Jul MAN/HEL/PVG with Finn Air

(Polish) – 06 Aug TXL/HEL/PVG – with Finn Air

The reason behind all the different dates was the visa, big delays in getting the visas

PCR Tests for the UK Guys were done the day before travel (managed to get appointments) in the hope of a quick turnaround of confirmation which did happen luckily enough.  The Finn Air flights were all on waitlist but we used our contact at Finn Air and he kindly managed to confirm these flights from waitlist and got ticketed instantly.

Message No. 70

Dear members

I allowed 36 hours for feedback on crew changes in China. I am afraid we have only received ONE response, which I am very grateful for. Any other???

…………………………

Kuba

As requested I can share with you that a client of Clyde Travel Management had a new vessel delivered recently that proved challenging for us to crew due to flight and airline restrictions, but we got there in the end.

We ended up booking Finn Air from Helsinki, from Manchester and Heathrow on the outbound and we have since had 2 return to the UK Shanghai to London.

Air China was bookable as a waitlist on our agent system and we found out that if you had a  Chinese phone number in the booking there was a high of chance of a confirmed seat. Air China is now allowing travel agents here to book flights via the air china call centre. We can also create the PNR in our system and request the reservation be transferred, so we can control the booking for changes etc. The availability search has to be done on the phone with Air China and our consultants because it’s all waitlist in the agent booking system.

More airlines are now selling availability ie BA, VS, AY so not as difficult as it had proved in the last few months

Kind regards

Mel
