Dispatches No. 489

Dear Members,

Seafarers and their repatriation are consuming the shipping world. Please find below the latest correspondence regarding this very subject:

Message No. 22

Please find below a message from Capt. Abdulla – Abdulla Al Hayyas [email protected]. We strongly recommend our members use him as requested below.

Shall we start talking about POOLING RESOURCES again this time to charter planes? There are many schemes available – IMEC, InterManager, or Greywing, to mention just a few.

…………………………

Dear Capt. Kuba,

As I mentioned, there are no restrictions in repatriation (sign-off), and visas are issued on a daily basis for seafarers.

Sign-on is only allowed on charter planes at this stage. Normal crew changes (sign-on/sign-off) is in process.

If you have any seafarers stuck onboard their ship and want to be repatriated, please let us know, and they will be on the plane flying back to join their families the next day.

Regards,

Capt. Abdulla

Message No. 21

Dear Members,

I hope you have seen the InterManager video and recent interview where we spoke on behalf of ship managers as advised by the Executive Committee.

As a result, the following message has been received:

………………………………………………………….

Good afternoon Capt. Kuba, this Capt. Abdulla from the maritime administration in the UAE. First of all, we would like to thank you and your team for supporting crew during this difficult time.

In reference to the article on Splash 24/7 regarding the crew repatriation in the UAE, could you please let us know if any companies or ships faced repatriation difficulties? There are no restrictions in the UAE for crew repatriation, which are being carried out on a daily basis. Hundreds have been repatriated now, and the agents are aware of the procedures: it has been done with no difficulties.

Crew change (sign-off/sign-on) has taken place with chartered planes, and lately Boskalis has carried out crew changes of around 100 seafarers on this basis.

We are working now to normalise crew changes as it was before. Officials are discussing this and taking into consideration air flight availability and health official comments on the matter. This is to clarify the matter and to ensure the right information is circulated.

……………………………………………………………..

As you can see, the UAE is willing to co-operate: therefore please let me know your issues and problems, which we would be able to present on your behalf in order to help and assist you and your sea staff in on and off-signing. We have an opportunity, so let’s use it.

We are in discussion with ICS regarding Cadets “COVID-19 Situation”.

It would help us greatly in knowing the answer to the following question. Your comments would be highly appreciated.

What are InterManager’s members anticipating about any possible reductions in the ability or capacity to provide cadet berths (all nationalities) this year? (e.g. X% of normal cadet berth available onboard ships).
