Ballast Water Management Conference in London (members could have attended for free)

I had a pleasure to chair the Day 3 – WORKSHOP

Attended mostly by manufacturers – 11 but also engineering companies and manufacturers of the monitoring equipment.

It might actually be more important to share with Members of InterManager who was NOT present:
Class, Flag, Cargo Owners, Ship Managers, Purchasers, Port State (Administration) representatives.

It was very interesting to hear manufacturers opinions about ship managers, main comments being:

  • It is owners who would decide on the equipment not the ship managers
  • Cheapest is the most important factor experienced by those in the room
  • Not interested in training packages
  • Not having REALISTIC Ballast Management Plan
  • Very low knowledge levels represented by those involved in contract negotiation (very often not a marine professional)

BEMA – Ballast Water Equipment Manufacturers’ Association https://bwema.org/  is ready to talk to us.

Did you know: there are 106 Ballast Water Treatment Equipment Manufacturers ?
