AGM 13-14.10.2014 to run alongside ship management conference – BOOK A DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR

Message from Member to Members :

Crewtoo Jobs is an online sea-going jobs board.  So we are only advertising the vacancies on behalf of clients.  We are not recruiting directly or getting involved in any side of that.  We have designed it so that we actively work to promote what vacancies are available in the market, and bring the two parties together.

Crewtoo members continuously ask us about how to find a job and career development and thus Crewtoo Jobs is the next stage in the development of the Crewtoo service/platform.

www.crewtoo.com remains the entry point for all interested Seafarers whereas we have a separate homepage for Employers/Recruiters – www.crewtoo.com/recruitment. This enables Employers/Recruiters to register and load vacancies as per their requirements.  There are three options to choose from with bespoke options for particular client needs.

A Recruiter will create an online profile, upload and post vacancies whilst gaining access to a searchable database.  Vacancies are then viewed by the Crewtoo member directly on the jobs board (a tab within the system to view all positions) or directly in their Crewtoo feed.  This enables us to keep users abreast of the new roles being advertised whilst also sending weekly alert emails that match job to jobseeker.  All this whilst enjoying the social benefits of Crewtoo.com.

From web to social we aim to help seafarers find the right job and to help companies find the right people with customised solutions.

I am sure that Dan will have told you that we have just launched the site for Employers/Recruiters to load vacancies and part of the launch includes a free trial.

I would like to extend this trial to all InterManager members and would be happy for you to advise them of the website url.    All they need to do is go to www.crewtoo.com/recruitment register for a free trial and then they are free to post up to 10 vacancies.

We have already had some fantastic feedback from seafarers and clients alike so we hope your members will enjoy utilising this also.

InterManager is gathering ship and shore staff together to take part in this year’s fund-raising 24 Peaks Challenge, organised by Seafarers UK.

Secretary General Captain Kuba Szymanski has already put together four teams which include staff from ship manager Member Bernhard Schulte and Associate Members SOFTImpact, Shipserve and ALLMode, but he is keen to encourage more InterManager supporters to take part.

“This will be my sixth time of taking part and I love doing it. It’s a great opportunity to challenge yourself and to build team spirit,” Kuba revealed in the latest edition of InterManager’s electronic newsletter Dispatch.

Taking part in the 24 Peaks Challenge can help bridge the gap between ship and shore staff he says. “This is a great event. Having teams which combine seafarers and shore staff can help build team spirit and bridge the gap between sea and shore.”

Organised by Seafarers-UK, the 24 Peaks Challenge involves walking up 24 high UK peaks in just 24 hours and takes place on the weekend of July 12-13. To take part your team will need to comprise 5/6 physically fit walkers plus at least one support crew and should raise a minimum donation of £4,000 per team.

Report from the activities attended on behalf of Members:

9th Maritime Communications & Technology Summit

40 people in the room. Very good speakers and really good, thought provoking presentations. Discussion gravitated around new technology being driven by manufacturers with rather limited input and engagement from the end users.

ECDIS and ECDIS S mode concept was discussed in great depth, so was use of DIGITAL communication and potential for cloud in shipping.

BWM Conference – IMAREST

This conference once again left participants with more questions than answers. It is now very clear that 10 years after ratification this very poorly conceived Convention will not enter into force this year and I personally very doubt even next year.

Biologists discussed and highlighted lack of universally agreed standards and definitions, which in turn make life of manufacturers who are suppose to meet regulatory requirements impossible. That leaves us – ship managers in absolute limbo, not knowing what is required in one hand and not knowing which equipment to buy and fit.

It was estimated that all present 33 manufacturers will need to work flat out once Convention enters into force in order to provide equipment for 40-50 000 vessels within one year.

It is envisaged that once convention is implemented it will have 2-3 years “testing period”.

InterManager representatives strongly voiced concerns regarding Human Element – lack of standardisation of equipment interface, lack of training material, huge pressure from commercial and political stake holders creates very unsafe environment for seafarers who will be failing Port State Controls.

Lloyd’s Register has issued a new short film entitled Safe Boat Transfers to help provide marine surveyors with comprehensive instructions on how to safely transfer between two vessels at sea. Working over water and, in particular, boat transfers, during which surveyors switch from a transfer vessel to the boat they are surveying, is a very high-risk activity. The film, originally developed for Lloyd’s Register employees, aims to raise awareness about the associated risks and hazards, and to provide instruction for every stage of the transfer. It is hoped that Safe Boat Transfers will help to significantly reduce the accidents associated with boat transfers. The DVD can be ordered from the Lloyd’s Register webstore: http://www.webstore.lr.org.
