Report from the activities attended on behalf of Members:

Captain Paddy McKnight attended an evening Reception at the UK Chamber of Shipping held in recognition of over 40 years service to the organisation by its outgoing Director- General, Mark Brownrigg.   It was  very well attended by high-level figures representing the Shipping Industry, including the presence of 8 former UK Chamber Presidents.  Comprehensive speeches were given by the current President of the Chamber, Kenneth MacLeod, followed by one of great appreciation for Mark’s contribution to the UK Maritime Industry from Senior Civil Servant Ian Woodman of the Department of Transport and rounded off by an excellent response from Mark in which he described many events of his Chamber working life in suitably appealing detail.

Lloyd’s Register has issued a new short film entitled Safe Boat Transfers to help provide marine surveyors with comprehensive instructions on how to safely transfer between two vessels at sea. Working over water and, in particular, boat transfers, during which surveyors switch from a transfer vessel to the boat they are surveying, is a very high-risk activity. The film, originally developed for Lloyd’s Register employees, aims to raise awareness about the associated risks and hazards, and to provide instruction for every stage of the transfer. It is hoped that Safe Boat Transfers will help to significantly reduce the accidents associated with boat transfers. The DVD can be ordered from the Lloyd’s Register webstore: http://www.webstore.lr.org.

Brgds Kuba
