What do our seafarers really want in terms of broadband communications at sea?
There’s a lot of talk within our industry about the importance of crew communications – everything from the internet to social media – but do we really know what our crew want?
Now InterManager Associate member Futurenautics Ltd aims to find out by conducting a research project to establish the real facts and we would like your help please.
The data from this survey will benefit seafarers and the wider industry by giving a fuller picture of the communications facilities provided at sea, allowing companies and their staff to benchmark provision by sector and across the industry.
We are looking for InterManager ship manager and crew manager members to enable their crew to take part in an online survey, or by post if preferred. Answers will be completely anonymous unless you choose to supply your contact details.
The online survey is at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Crew_Comms_Survey
Questions include seafarer IT skill levels, the provision, type and location of communications on board and what effects seafarers perceive the availability of onboard communications facilities to have on crew members.
InterManager Secretary General, Captain Kuba Szymanski, said: “Please help us to grasp the situation and get a clearer picture of what communications facilities are available or needed within the shipping industry.”
