Six Crew Missing After Cargoships Collide Off Japan

Six Japanese crew have been missing after a collision between two general cargoships off Izu Oshima Island, about 100 km south of Tokyo, early on Friday morning, Japanese public broadcaster NHK has reported.

The 1,430 dwt, Japan-flagged Eifuku Maru No. 18 capsized after colliding with the 5,195 dwt, Sierra Leone-flagged Jia Hui.

Coastguards are searching for the missing crew.

The 13 crew of Jia Hui, including 12 Chinese and one Malay, were found nearby and are reported to be safe.

Jia Hui is operated and owned by China-based Ninghai Zhong He Shipping Company. The other shipowner is KK Miura Zosensho of Japan, according to Lloyd’s List Intelligence data.
