Tankers Raided Off Africa

Greek and Nigerian tankers have been robbed by armed men off West Africa, but their crews are safe.

The Delfi-managed 51,000-dwt Zouzou (built 2010) sent a distress signal during a boarding by 12 raiders on 22 March off Benin.

The company told TradeWinds that some items were taken, but no one was harmed in the attack and the robbers left the ship.

On the same day, off Nigeria, Petromar Nigeria’s 6,800-dwt Pluto (built 1984) was boarded by 10 men in a fishing vessel who looted the tanker and smashed up bridge communications.

The vessel headed to Lagos for repairs.
