Dear SOS supporters

SOS SaveOurSeafarers update.

Latest on SOS website – surge of website visits and letters since the latest SOS press release sustained by social media activity and ongoing ripples from press release and Reuters activity.

15,475 letters

56,350 website visits from 170 countries

3,425 Facebook ‘likes’

564 Twitter followers

Since the last update to all SOS supporters (24/6) we have welcomed The London P&I Club, The Standard P&I Club and the Britannia P&I Club as financial supporters of the SOS campaign.

France’s Nouvel Observateur web feature on piracy online this week (see link below) – apologies for my less than perfect French but thought we had a better chance for coverage if I spoke French! All the SOS bits have been edited out … but at least we get a SOS web link on the links page. Nouvel Obs has a circulation of over 500,000. The journalist involved is now passionate about the subject of Somali piracy and we are already working on a fourth subject for this website and other NouvelObs publications –it will be the human cost of Somali piracy.

http://tempsreel.nouvelobs.com/WebDocu_Piraterie/index.html

RMS has been working with New York’s Popular Science Magazine to feature piracy as its shipping cover story in the next issue (we will receive copies). Then, over the next month or so the journalist will be working with his editor to pitch a more in-depth story on piracy to the rest of the PopSci staff. Popular Science Magazine has a paid subscription ($12.99) of I.3 million and readership of 6.5 million. Plus 10,000 on-line paid subscribers  ($14.99). Right on for our U.S. target audience!

RMS has also been working with Time Magazine on a piracy feature. It’ll be out in the summer double issue called ‘Journey’, and will be on the stands on the last two weeks of July.

Very specific and supporting press release last week from Philippines Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)

www.dole.gov.ph/secondpage.php?id=2126

The recent SOS press release has been translated by the naval forces Bahrein hq into a Somali language press release. They are suggesting that we think about circulating it in Somalia so the Somali people realise the reality of what pirates are doing.
