ILO seminar delivered in Piraeus
The new International Labour Organisation (ILO) Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC, 2006) is being hailed as an international bill of rights for seafarers.

It has been drafted to help ensure that all seafarers, regardless of their nationality and the flag of the ships they work on, can enjoy decent working and living conditions.

Not yet mandatory, the MLC is expected to come into force by 2012 and has already attracted the attention of ship-owners, raising questions on how and when this new convention is going to affect them and what they need to do.

To support the needs of its clients, Lloyd’s Register has prepared an international programme of seminars, workshops and training programmes. Two seminars were delivered last week in Piraeus to keep clients up to date and answer any questions they had on the MLC 2006. The seminars were delivered in the Training Facilities at the Lloyd’s Register Piraeus offices with over 60 delegates from more than 30 shipping companies in attendance at the two sessions.
